History:
The facility honors Alice F. Emerson, Wheaton's first female president, who served from 1975 to 1991. Emerson Gymnasium opened its doors for its first varsity contests on January 29, 1991, as men's and women's basketball played Tufts University. Women's volleyball's first match was on September 17, 1991, against Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The three teams played in Clark Recreation Center prior to the construction of Haas Athletic Center.
