Facility facts:
Located in Haas Athletic Center, Emerson Gymnasium's hardwood floor
provides space for a primary basketball court, two volleyball
courts and two recreational basketball overlays. Amenities
include permanent wooden bleachers and two electronic
scoreboards.
History:
The facility honors Alice F. Emerson, Wheaton's first female
president, who served from 1975 to 1991. Emerson Gymnasium opened
its doors for its first varsity contests on January 29, 1991, as
men's and women's basketball played Tufts University. Women's
volleyball's first match was on September 17, 1991, against
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The three teams played
in Clark Recreation Center prior to the construction of Haas
Athletic Center.
