Facility facts:
The primary facility for Wheaton athletics since the 1990-91
school year houses Balfour Natatorium, Beard Field House,
Emerson Gymnasium and the majority of the athletic department
staff's offices. Also located within Haas Athletic Center are an
athletic treatment center, equipment room, locker rooms, meeting
spaces and the sports information department. The Tokarz Team
Room, which was named for long-time custodial employee Joe Tokarz,
is also situated in Haas Athletic Center.
History:
Haas Athletic Center was named for Evelyn Danzig Haas
'39, a college trustee from 1977 to 1989 and a former member of the
Annual Fund Special Gifts Committee and the San Francisco Wheaton
Club. Mrs. Haas was also a trustee or director of many charitable
organizations, such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the
San Francisco Children's Hospital, and the Council of the National
Gallery in Washington, D.C. Prior to the complex's
construction, Clark Recreation Center served as Wheaton's
central athletic complex.
