Holbrook scattered four hits over seven innings to help the Lyons (34-8) capture their 12th New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament championship on Saturday. He allowed one run, walked two and struck out four to improve to 7-0 on the season with an 11-2 win over Babson.
On the year, Holbrook owns a miniscule 1.44 earned run average (ERA), having allowed just 12 runs (10 earned) in 62.2 innings of work. He has allowed two runs or less in all nine starts and enters the NCAA Tournament with the second-lowest single-season ERA in program history.
Holbrook becomes the second Wheaton baseball student-athlete honored by D3baseball.com in 2012. Earlier this season, freshman Apolinar De la Cruz (Providence, R.I./Classical) was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week (March 20).
The Lyons – who advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight season and 11th time in program history – begin play on Wednesday, May 16 at Eastern Connecticut State in Mansfield, Conn.
