NORTON, MA- Sophomore Emily Asack (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton) tied a school record with four goals, leading the Wheaton College field hockey team to a 6-0 victory over visiting Simmons College on Thursday at Clark Field. The Lyons moved to 2-0 for the fourth straight season, while the Sharks slipped to 0-2.
Juniors Margaux Bolte (Belmont, MA/Belmont) and Jessica Strock (Centerville, MA/Barnstable) also scored for the Lyons, while senior Andrea Bagley (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) made three stops for the shutout. Wheaton held advantages of 36-3 in shots and 10-3 in penalty corners. Simmons freshman Molly Maidman (West Hartford, CT/Hall) recorded 10 saves.
Asack netted the game-winner after just 2:18, taking a feed from freshman Alex Smith (Suffield, CT/Suffield), before Strock made it 2-0 just 4:30 later. Asack recorded a natural hat trick in putting the Lyons up by five, scoring her second marker of the game during the 15th minute by redirecting senior Alex Block's (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) pass to the far post.
In the 22nd minute, senior back Cassie Abel's (Windham, NH/Salem) free hit was deflected home by Asack. The sophomore forward finished off her record-tying day at 49:13 following a penalty corner, as Asack became the sixth player in program history to tally four times. Bolte blasted in the final goal during the 58th minute from the top of the circle.
With a brief two-game homestand complete, the Lyons hit the road for the next four contests, next returning to Norton on September 26. Wheaton is back in action on Tuesday at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
