NORTON, MA- Wheaton College field hockey sophomore Emily Asack (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Co-Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, September 6. It was her first career league accolade, which she shared with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) sophomore Anna Teruya.
Asack matched a school record, posted a game-winning goal and assisted another during Wheaton's 2-0 week, totaling four goals and an assist. On Tuesday, Asack's second-half helper on the game-winning goal allowed the Lyons to complete a 2-1 comeback victory over Salve Regina University. She then notched a program-record-tying four goals, among them the game-winner, during Thursday's 6-0 triumph against Simmons College.
Asack leads the Lyons with four goals and nine points through two games. As a freshman, Asack netted six goals in 11 games despite missing much of the season due to injury. Her four-goal outburst, the sixth such performance in program history, marked the fourth multiple-goal game of her career, as all of her career tallies have occurred during those contests.
Wheaton is 2-0 for the fourth straight season, and the Lyons look for their ninth win in 10 games since last fall when they travel to the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth on Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. contest under the lights.
