Lyons complete five-game road trip with decisive victory at Rivier
NASHUA, .-. The Wheaton College field hockey team set a program record for goals in a game during Saturday's 14-0 victory at non-league foe Rivier College on Raider Field. The previous mark was 13 goals in a shutout win over Regis College in 2007.
Wheaton moves to 3-2 on the year, while Rivier opened its season today.
Nine different Lyons recorded at least a point, with junior Aliza Underhill (Corinth, Maine/Central) leading the pack with a career-best four goals. Her four markers and eight points tied school records, as she became the seventh Wheaton player to have tallied four times.
Also totaling eight points was senior Jessica Strock (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable), who notched a hat trick with two assists. She posted the game-winner just 3:45 into action following a penalty corner. Strock tacked on another goal and one helper before the intermission, as the visitors carried a 6-0 advantage into halftime.
Junior Carmela Luzi (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug Regional) found the back of the cage twice, freshman Jenna Rocha (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth Regional) recorded a goal and two assists, while junior Tierney Richardson (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) and sophomore Azza Reineman (Manchester, Mass./Pomfret School) each added a tally and a helper.
Freshman goalie Ellie Massengill (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) picked up one save during her first collegiate win, while Raider sophomore Nicole Hauswirth (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) amassed 30 stops.
The Lyons begin their six-game home slate at Faxon Field in Rehoboth tomorrow afternoon against Bay Path College. Start time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
