Luzi scores in Lyons 6-1 loss at No. 5 Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Senior Carmela Luzi (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug Regional) scored her fourth goal of the season in Wheaton College's 6-1 loss at No. 5 Skidmore College in non-conference field hockey action Sunday afternoon at the Williamson Sports Center.

Sophomore Kelly Blackhurst (North River, N.Y./Johnsburg) scored two goals and added an assist for the Thoroughbreds , who improve to 12-1 with the win. The loss evens the Lyons record at 7-7.

Skidmore senior Annie Rosencrans (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) recorded a goal and two assists, senior Lauren Tobias (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) had a goal and an assist, and senior Ali Fray (Williston, VT / Champlain Valley ) and junior Hillary Cranston (Mason, NH / Lawrence Academy) each picked up an assist for Skidmore.

The Thoroughbreds built a 3-0 lead at halftime behind a pair of goals from Blackhurst. They opened the second half with three-consecutive goals to stretch their lead to 6-0 before Luzi got the Lyons on the board at 64:54.

Senior Ellie Massengill (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) recorded 14 saves for Wheaton, which was outshot 27-5 on the afternoon. Freshman Haley McDougall (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) made three saves for Skidmore.

Wheaton returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Babson for a 6 p.m. contest. Skidmore plays at Union Friday at 4 p.m.
