NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College field hockey senior Emily Asack (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) has been named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) First Team.
Asack led the Lyons with 12 points (5-2-12) in eight NEWMAC contests, which placed her in a tie for eighth in the conference. She recorded a season-high four points (1-2-4) in a 5-4 win at Springfield and scored a pair of goals in a 4-2 win against Smith on Senior Day. Asack also netted the game-winning goal against Mount Holyoke and Clark.
"Emily Asack is an exceptional student-athlete that can always be relied upon on both ends of the field," said Lyons head coach Rebecca Begley. "While her speed is evident as our defensive flyer and as our center forward, she is without a doubt the hardest working player on the field in every practice. Her tenacity, athleticism and determination make her an excellent teammate."
Asack ranks second in program history in goals (43) and points (103). In 2011, she led the Lyons in overall scoring for the second time in the last three seasons with 36 points – including a team-high 15 goals.
The Lyons completed the 2011 regular season with a mark of 10-8 (4-4 NEWMAC). They travel to Bridgewater State for a 6 p.m. Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Quarterfinal game on Wednesday at Swenson Field.
