Chick named to NEWMAC All-Academic Team

NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College field hockey sophomore Emily Chick (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) has been named to the 2011 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic Team.

A midfielder who finished third in scoring with 20 points (6-8-20) this season, Chick holds 3.85 grade point average (GPA). She has yet to declare a major.

"Wheaton College prides itself on having exceptional student-athletes, and Emily Chick is the perfect example of that," said Lyons head coach Rebecca Begley. "An elite field hockey player, Chick excels off the field as well. Her unselfish character is evident on and off the field as she leads the team in assists but is also an academic tutor. Emily Chick not only sets up her teammates for success, but her classmates as well."

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2011 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

The Lyons finished the season 10-9 and advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament for the fifth time in program history.
