NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College field hockey seniors Emily Asack (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) and Bonnie Davies (Roxbury, Conn./Shepaug Valley) have been named to the 2011 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III New England East Region Team.
Asack led the Lyons in goals (16) and points (38) en route to earning New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) First Team honors. An NFHCA Second Team selection as a junior, Asack was selected to the First Team this season. She capped her career with 105 points, which is No. 1 all-time in program history, and sits No. 2 in goals (44) and t-5th in assists (17).
Davies started all 19 games in the backfield and recorded four points (1-2-4) to garner Second Team honors for the second-straight season. She also recorded one defensive save.
"Wheaton is honored and proud to have Bonnie Davies and Emily Asack representing our field hockey team on the New England East Region Team," said Lyons head coach Rebecca Begley. "Both Davies and Asack contribute on both ends of the field offensively and defensively. They are both key members of our corner crews as well as leaders on and off the field. It's no wonder the selection committee recognized their efforts and abilities with this honor."
A total of 21 student-athletes from NEWMAC institutions were honored by the NFHCA (10 First Team, 11 Second Team).
The Lyons finished the 2011 season with a 10-9 record, marking the fifth time in the last six seasons they have reached the 10-win plateau.
