Field Hockey Pushed Out by Smith

NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College field hockey team dropped, 7-2, against the Smith College Pioneers on Saturday during Parent's Weekend.

The Lyons (5-2, 0-2 NEWMAC) battled off a few shots from Smith (3-4, 2-0 NEWMAC) before the Pioneers knocked in the first goal 10 minutes in to take the 1-0 lead.

Wheaton was quick to respond as Kelsey Harris put in her own goal, tying the game. She was assisted by Katie Peters.

The Lyons switched it up five minutes later as Peters netted in the second goal for Wheaton, pulling them ahead 2-1. She was assisted by Harris.

Before the first half ended, Smith tied up the game in the 25th minute with a goal by Bayleigh Bogan.

In the second half, both teams remained quiet until the Pioneers snatched up the momentum as they scored 56 minutes in to take the 3-2 lead. Smith didn't stop there as they held the pressure on Wheaton for the remainder of the game to win, 7-2.

The Lyons compete again on Tuesday at Johnson & Wales (R.I.) with game time set for 7 p.m.
