Riley Thompson Named NEWMAC Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week

BOSTON, Mass. -- The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference has just announced that Riley Thompson has been named NEWMAC Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Thompson, a senior goalkeeper, made 31 saves in the Lyons' season opener, a 4-2 nonconference loss at Endicott. Thompson's 31 saves are a single season high and ties a Wheaton single game record. The gulls fired a total of 51 shots throughout the game including 37 on goal, which make for a .886 Thompson save percentage.

Wheaton continues their schedule tonight, September 5, when they host Regis College at 7:00 p.m. on Diane C. Nordin '80 Field.
