Men's Basketball Wins Tip-Off Tournament

SCORE: Wheaton 83 - Mount Ida 66

RECORDS: Wheaton (3-0) - Mount Ida (1-1)

LOCATION: Norton, Mass. (Emerson Gymnasium)

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • Wheaton Seniors Liam Bruno and Ryan Fogarty led all players with 21 points on the night. Bruno went 7-12 from the paint and 5-9 from three, while Fogarty got hot and went 5-6 from three and 4-4 from the line. 
  • Junior Duaka Ekwensi would have another strong night, totaling 19 points after going 6-9 in the paint and 7-12 from the line. 
  • The Mustangs, led by Joey DeFillippi, came out strong in the first half and outscored the Lyons 34-25. 
  • The Lyons found help in the second half from sophomore Alex DuBrow who went 4-4 from the line and totaling 10 points and seven assists on the night. 
  • Wheaton's high percentage shooting eventually helped them come back, outscoring the Mustangs 58-32 in the second half.  
  • As a whole, the Lyons shot 66.7% from the line with 40 rebounds and 10 steals. 
  • With this win, the Lyons take home the trophy and are this year's champions of the Tip-Off Tournament!
