Quartet named all-league, Cederberg earns third honor

WORCESTER, MA- Four Wheaton College men's lacrosse players earned Pilgrim League All-Conference honors on Monday at the postseason coaches meeting at Clark University, including junior Ben Cederberg (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury), who became the first player in program history to earn an all-league accolade three times.

Cederberg and sophomore Billy McNamara (Mansfield, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon School) both landed on the first team, giving the Lyons a pair of players on the top squad for the fifth straight season. The award was McNamara's first. Senior Drew Schaffer (New Haven, CT/Loomis Chaffee School) and junior Chris Landers (Manchester, MA/Proctor Academy) were second teamers, each drawing their second all-league honor.

Cederberg, Landers and McNamara comprised Wheaton's starting attack line, as the Lyons are one of four teams in Division III - and the lone New England squad - with a trio of 60-point scorers. Schaffer was an offensive midfielder for the Blue and White, which finished 8-8 after falling in the league championship game at Springfield College for the third straight season.

Cederberg leads the league in points (63) and assists (35) while adding 28 goals, among them five with a man-up opportunity. He scored at least one goal in all but one game while turning in multiple assists nine times. Cederberg posted the second-highest assist total in program history and tied for fourth in points with the most since 1997. He enters his senior year third in career assists (72), sixth in points (149) and 10th in goals (77) as one of three Lyons to ever record at least 70 goals and 55 assists.

McNamara is second among all conference players in goals (36) and assists (25) while ranking third in points (61). He turned in at least one point in 15 contests while collecting multiple goals in 10 games, including notching six hat tricks. McNamara's point total was tied for the eighth best in school annals, and he was ninth in assists. Heading into his junior season, McNamara has accumulated 106 career points.

Landers is the league leader in goals (42), netting nine during the team's two postseason contests. He also ranks second in points (62) and is tied for fifth in assists (20). Landers tallied at least one goal in every game while placing second in the conference with 10 man-up goals. He tied the sixth-highest single-season point total in Wheaton history and was eighth in goals. For his career, Landers is fifth in goals (97) and seventh in points (135).

Schaffer turned in at least one point in 13 of 16 games, including notching multiple points during seven contests. He picked up at least one ground ball in 10 games while netting three man-up markers and assisting six more.
