Wheaton Pushes Winning Streak To Four-Straight Over Regis
Hanlon nets three to lead Lyons offensively
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Regis College, 17-7, in Pilgrim League action on Saturday afternoon at Mirrione Stadium.
Junior Cam Hanlon (Hanson, Mass./BC High) potted a game-high three goals to lead a group of ten different goal scorers. Seniors Billy McNamara (Mansfield, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon School) and Sean Doherty (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) both facilitated the offense as McNamara dished out a game-high six assists and Doherty set up four goals.
Regis sophomore Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) guided the Pride's attack with three goals while freshman Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) handed out three helpers.
Wheaton stormed out to a 9-0 lead over the opening 27:10 of action as McNamara and sophomore Matthew Hillman (Brookline, Mass.//Brookline) paced the scoring outburst with two goals apiece. The Pride finally broke into the scoring column with 47-seconds remaining in the second quarter on a tally from freshman Jack O'Brien (Milton, Mass./Milton). Doherty highlighted the ten-goal first half with a behind-the-back marker at 4:34 of the first quarter on a nice feed by Hillman.
The Lyons outscored Regis, 8-6, in the second half to secure its fourth-straight win and second victory in Pilgrim League play. Hanlon had two goals in the third quarter as he found the back of the net with 13:52 on the scoreboard and 9:08.
Junior goalkeeper Harrison Bramhall (Barrington, R.I./Trinity Pawling) made five saves in 40:05 to push his record to 4-4 overall on the season. Freshman Ryan Clair (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School) turned aside three shots and did not allow a goal in 14:57 in a reserve role. Regis freshman goalkeeper Morgan Ford (Smyrna, Ga./Campbell) stopped a game-high 16 shots.
At the face-off X, freshman Liam Williams (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) went 10-for-17 for the Lyons while classmate Paul Gray (Danbury, Conn./Milbrook School) was 5-for-10. Williams compiled a game-high six ground balls along with Doherty.
Wheaton (4-4, 2-0 Pilgrim) hosts Lasell College for a non-conference matchup on Thursday, April 11 at 4:00 p.m. Regis (3-7, 0-2 Pilgrim) travels to Johnson State College on Thursday at 4 p.m.
