Men’s Lacrosse Breezes Past Lasell, 15-4

McNamara tallies ten points for Lyons

NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College senior Billy McNamara (Mansfield, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon School) buried six goals and dished out four assists to lead the Lyons to a 15-4 victory over Lasell College in non-conference action on Thursday evening at Mirrione Stadium.

McNamara tallied a season-high ten points for Wheaton and also added seven ground balls and one caused turnover. Sophomore Matthew Hillman (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) registered three markers and senior Will Compton (Deering, N.H./Proctor Academy) and junior Cam Hanlon (Hanson, Mass./BC High) had two goals each. Seniors Sean Doherty (East Lyme, conn./East Lyme) and Nik Hodosy-Brander (Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca School) rounded out the scoring with one tally apiece.

Lasell sophomore Andy Puopolo (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) netted two goals to lead the Lasers attack. Classmates Dylan Fernandes (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) and Joe Cunning (Newton, Mass./Newton North) both chipped in with one marker.

McNamara gave the Lyons a 1-0 lead with 8:55 on the scoreboard in the first quarter on an unassisted tally for his 12th goal of the season. After Cunning responded for Lasell two minutes later to even the score at 1-1, Wheaton went on a 4-0 run to close out the opening 15 minutes of action.

Doherty ripped a shot into the back of the net on a nice feed by Compton at 5:41 to take a 2-1 advantage. McNamara set up the next two goals for the Lyons dishing a pass to Compton at 4:43 (man-up) while setting up Hillman for his first of three markers at 2:09.

Wheaton outscored the Lasers, 6-1, in the second quarter to take a commanding 10-2 lead into the break. McNamara guided the offensive charge with three-straight goals over a 7:13 span during a 5-0 run for the Blue and White. Hillman started the scoring outburst at 11:08 and capped the run at 2:39 with a man-up goal. Hanlon opened up the quarter with a goal at the 14:00 mark.

Lyons' junior goalkeeper Harrison Bramhall (Barrington, R.I./Trinity Pawling) stopped a game-high 12 shots in 51:58 of action. Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Clair (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School) made three saves and did not allow a goal in 8:02 of playing time. Lasell sophomore goalkeeper David Walen (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) had ten saves in the loss.

Freshman face-off specialist Liam Williams (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) went 10-for-18 at the X, compiled eight ground balls and caused two turnovers. The Lyons went 13-for-23 overall at the face-off X, won the ground balls matchup, 55-40, and went 22-for-28 in clear attempts.

Wheaton (5-4, 2-0 NEWMAC), winners of five-straight games, takes on Wentworth on Saturday, April 13 on the road at 7 p.m. Lasell (6-6) hosts Emerson on Saturday at 1 p.m.
