VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Wheaton College men's lacrosse team fell to Christopher Newport 19-7 Wednesday afternoon at Captains Turf Field.

Scott Whear opened the scoring two minutes into the opening period with a feed from CJ Leighton. It took Christopher Newport four and a half minutes to find the equalizer. The home team pulled ahead just seconds later, but were matched by an unassited goal from Ryan Gjerset, making it a 2-2 contest. CNU pulled ahead for good in the final two minutes of the opening frame, taking a slim 3-2 lead into the second quarter.

Will Morrison and Whear both scored for the Lyons in the second period, but it would not be enough to stop the hosts from going into intermission with a 9-4 advantage.

The third quarter belonged to Christopher Newport who posted four unanswered goals. Wheaton earned three goals back in the fourth quarter with Gjerset scoring once and Morrison finding the back of the net twice with help from Josh Mastrianni and Josh Talanian
