NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's soccer sophomore midfielder Chris Thomas' (Cumberland, ME/Phillips Academy) weekend performances helped lead to being selected New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the first time for the week ending on Sunday, October 18.
Thomas netted a game-winner in NEWMAC play while adding an assist during the Lyons' 2-0 showing over the weekend. On Saturday, the midfielder notched his first goal of the year, as his 17th-minute marker stood up as the only scoring in a 1-0 victory at Clark University. During the Lyons' 2-0 victory on Sunday against visiting Saint Joseph's College of Maine, Thomas assisted Wheaton's second marker.
Winner in four of its last five games, Wheaton enters the week with a 13-3-1 overall record and a 3-1 conference mark, standing second in league play. The Lyons received votes last week from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and ranked fourth in the New England poll. Wheaton hosts non-league foe Worcester State College on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
