Ferriero and Moreira selected to NSCAA All-New England first squad

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's soccer juniors David Ferriero (Medway, MA/Medway) and Yuri Moreira (Marlboro, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon School) were both selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-New England East first team, as each was named to an all-region squad for the initial time.

The duo, which is now eligible for the All-America ballot, was among just five New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) players on four teams split between the East and West. It marked the 12th time in the past 15 seasons that at least two Lyons earned all-region honors from the NSCAA.

Ferriero started 20 games in the backfield, anchoring a defense that finished first in the conference in fewest goals allowed (18), most shutouts (10) and lowest goals against average (0.76), with the team's GAA serving as the fourth best in program history.  The Lyons surrendered one goal or fewer 18 times.  Ferriero, who also drew NEWMAC All-Conference honors, scored against eventual NCAA Tournament semifinalist Williams College.

Moreira, who is 26th in all of Division III in goals per game (0.80), paced the league in points (34), goals (16) and game-winning markers (7).  In addition to his game-winners total falling one shy of the school standard, Moreira tied for third in single-season goals and placed seventh in points.  Scoring at least once in 11 contests, he notched all of Wheaton's goals during four wins, including at NCAA Tournament participant Western New England College.  Moreira was named NEWMAC Player of the Year, earned all-league first-team accolades and was an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star.

The Lyons recorded an overall mark of 18-4-1 and a 5-1 record in the NEWMAC this fall, suffering its four losses to a trio of teams that made the NCAA Tournament field.  Wheaton is ranked seventh in the region by the NSCAA.
