NORTON, Mass. - Wheaton College men's soccer standouts Yuri Moreira (Marlboro, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon School) and Kyle Sye (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) were selected to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior All-Star game on Sunday at Harvard University at 1:00 p.m.
This marks the fourth year in which two Lyons were picked to play in the game. Wheaton is one of 10 Division III schools with at least two players. Moreira and Sye are two of three New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) players chosen.
Moreira wrapped up his distinguished career as one of Wheaton's most prolific scorers, finishing second in program history with 44 goals and 96 points. This fall, the forward recorded team highs of nine markers and four game-winning goals while sharing the squad lead of 20 points. A three-time all-league choice and 2009 NEWMAC Player of the Year, Moreira earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America and All-New England honors his junior season. He was also an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star.
A four-year mainstay in Wheaton's midfield, Sye was one of five Lyons to register 19 starts this season. Contributing an assist in a shutout victory over Husson University earlier this fall, Sye completed his career with 11 assists and 19 points. A three-year NEWMAC All-Conference player, Sye leaves the program ranked in a tie for fifth in games played at 84.
In four seasons, the tandem led the Lyons to one NCAA Tournament appearance, one NEWMAC regular season title and one league tournament championship. During their careers, Wheaton went 53-21-11 overall and 13-7-4 in league play.
