Mena, Swanson named to NEWMAC All-Academic Team

NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College men's soccer senior Pablo Mena (San Salvador, El Salvador/American School of El Salvador) and junior tri-captain Max Swanson (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) have been named to the 2011 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic Team.

Mena is an economics and international relations major and management minor who holds a 3.53 grade point average (GPA). Swanson, meanwhile, is a history major and an economics minor with a 3.66 GPA.

Mena is a three-time NEWMAC All-Academic selection who tallied four points (1-2-4) in 18 matches this season. Swanson – who earned all-academic honors in 2010 – placed fourth on the team in scoring with 15 points (6-3-15).

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2011 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

The Lyons finished the season 9-8-2 and advanced to semifinals of the NEWMAC Tournament.
