Lyons honored with NSCAA Team Academic Award

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's soccer team has received the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award.

Wheaton was one of 220 schools across all levels of competition sponsoring men's soccer to receive this honor, as well as one of only three New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) institutions (MIT, Springfield). In order to qualify for the award, the team must own a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.

"I am proud of the effort it takes these young man to be succesful both in the classroom and on the playing field," said Lyons head coach Matt Cushing.

The Lyons – who finished the 2011 season 9-8-2 (4-2-0 NEWMAC) – featured a pair of NEWMAC Academic All-Conference selections in senior Pablo Mena and junior Max Swanson.
