Former Wheaton College men's soccer assistant coach Matt O’Toole, in his own estimation, took a step back, but he was willing to take the risk. Last summer, the Norwell native left his position as men’s soccer coach at Bridgewater College in Virginia to become an assistant at Amherst.

When Daniel Antoniuk left Wheaton College with a degree in economics, it was the game of soccer that beckoned, not the business world. So he loaded up his vehicle, drove from the Illinois campus to Oregon, and spent three seasons playing with the Portland Timbers. It was the first of many, many stops.

The Wheaton College men’s and women’s soccer programs are well represented by area athletes. Yuri Moreira , a 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association All-American from Marlborough, and David Ferriero from Medway captain the men’s squad this fall, while Alessia Viscomi , a 2008 All-American from Newton, is a senior captain for the women’s program.
February 3, 2010 Antoniuk '03 returns to San Diego soccer squad after stint in Vietnam
After a brief stint in Vietnam, #19 returned to the San Diego Sockers' roster just in time to join the team as they traveled to Stockton Thursday, Jan. 28, where the Sockers won their third straight game this season against the Profession Arena Soccer League reigning champs, the California Cougars.
