NORTON, Mass. - Wheaton College men's swimming & diving freshman Charlie Maier (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) was tabbed New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Diver of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, January 16, earning the award for the first time in his young career.
Maier picked up a combined three event wins and two school records over the weekend. During his team's 175-118 victory over league school Clark University on Friday, he swept the one- and three-meter diving events, notching a school-record 251.48 points off the one-meter platform and a score of 229.65 points in the three-meter competition.
In Saturday's losses to New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) schools Connecticut College and Trinity College, Maier broke a 10-year-old program mark in the three-meter dive with 237.30 points, good for second place. Off the one-meter springboard, he won with 234.45 points.
The Lyons resume action this Wednesday with a home dual meet against NEWMAC school Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) at 6:00 p.m.
