WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. – The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming & diving teams participated in the 2011 New England Invitational Saturday afternoon. No team scores were kept.
Sophomore Emerson Jenkins (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill School) and freshman Cara Morris (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) recorded the best finishes of the afternoon for the Lyons. Jenkins placed third in the 50-yard breaststroke for the men while Morris took third in the 50-yard butterfly for the women.
Junior Caroline Isaacs (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) placed fourth in the 1,00-yard free for the women while sophomore Nina Lantcot (Chatham, Mass.) picked up the other fourth-place finish for the women in the 100-yard breaststroke.
On the men's side, freshman Richard Jenkins (Bow, N.H./Bow) took fourth in the 50-yard backstroke, followed by senior Devon Best (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) in fifth. Freshman Dominic Ziolek (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) also recorded a fourth-place finish for in the 50-yard breaststroke.
The men placed fourth in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Both Jenkins, along with sophomore Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn./Darien) and freshman Nick Fredette (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham), teamed up for the 200-yard medley while both Jenkins were paired with Best and junior Sam Neill (Ludlow, Mass./Belchertown) for the free relay.
Morris and Isaacs helped the women's 400-yard freestyle relay team place fifth, along with senior Sarah Miller (Madison, N.J./Madison) and junior Dana Auger (Milford, Mass./Milford).
The Lyons return to action on Saturday when they open the home portion of their schedule with a tri-meet against New York University and Coast Guard at 1 p.m.
