Lyons edge Trinity (Conn.) 122-119 in men's action; women fall 142-96

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's swimming & diving team picked up their second win in less than 24 hours with a 122-119 victory over Trinity (Conn.) College Saturday afternoon at Balfour Natatorium. The women were defeated by the Bantams 142-96.

Junior Sam Neill (Ludlow, Mass./Ludlow) took first in the 50-yard free (23.14), sophomore Emerson Jenkins (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill School) won the 100-yard free (49.55), and senior Devon Best (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) and freshman Richard Jenkins (Bow, N.H./Bow) finished 1-2 in the 100-yard back. Best finished with a mark of 57.84.

In the diving competition, sophomore Charlie Maier (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) and freshman Ben Oliveri (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) finished 1-2 in both the 1 mtr and 3 mtr events. Maier scored a 228.30 in the 1 mtr and a 216.53 in the 3 mtr while Oliveri received a 216.67 in the 1 mtr and a 195.67 in the 3 mtr.

Additionally, the 4x400 free relay team of Neill, Best, sophomore Nick Oliveri (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and freshman Nick Fredette (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) placed first with a time of 3:25.25.

Second-place finishers for the men included: junior Christian Woods (Claremont, Conn./Webb School of California) in the 1,000-yard free, R. Jenkins in the 200-yard free, N. Oliveri in the 100-yard butterfly, Fredette in the 500-yard free, the 200-yard medley relay team of R. Jenkins, E. Jenkins, sophomore Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn./Darien), and freshman Cory Hedges (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), and the 400-yard free relay team of Woods, E. Jenkins, junior Griffin Hanley (Andover, Mass./North Andover), and sophomore Matt Sexton (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack).

For the women, sophomore Adrianne Madden (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) won both the 50-yard free (25.11) and 100-yard free (55.76). She also helped the 400-yard free relay team place first (3:50.03), along with senior Sarah Miller (Madiso­n, N.J./Madison), junior Caroline Isaacs (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty), and freshman Cara Morris (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington).  

Wheaton's 200-yard medley relay team of senior Taryn Brosnan (Westford, Mass./Academy of Notre Dame), juniors Elle Van Cott (Back Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and Dana Auger (Milford, Mass./Milford), and sophomore Nina Lanctot (Chatham, Mass.) placed first with a time of 1:56.17.

Lanctot also won the 100-yard breast (1:10.86) while Van Cott placed second in the 100-yard back. Additionally, seniors Alexandra Wilson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and Catherine Army (Pomfret, Conn./Comfret) competed in the 1 mtr and 3 mtr dive events for the Lyons.

The Lyons host Babson next Saturday at noon.
