NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's tennis senior Nii Manfoi Davies (Town & Country, MO/The Principia) and junior Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) were named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Doubles Team of the Week, while sophomore Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) picked up the singles weekly honor for the week ending on Sunday, April 19.
Davies and Hudgins were lauded with doubles accolades for the first time in their careers, while Altman earned his second singles honor of the season.
Altman went 3-0 on the road last week from his fourth singles position, including winning both of his NEWMAC matches. He downed a Clark University opponent, 6-4, 6-1 during the Lyons' 9-0 shutout on Monday before picking up a quick 6-0, 6-2 triumph in Wheaton's 5-3 loss at Babson College on Saturday. In a non-conference match on Thursday at Salem State College, Altman was victorious by a 6-3, 6-3 count. He currently leads the Lyons with 13 wins this year, having gone 8-1 from the fourth slot.
Davies and Hudgins completed the regular season by going 3-0 last week from the second doubles spot, with each match occurring away from home and two contests coming in NEWMAC play. The tandem downed a Clark twosome, 8-3 before edging out a Babson duo, 9-8. Davies and Hudgins also picked up an 8-2 win at Salem State.
The third-seeded Lyons, who are scheduled to host this weekend's NEWMAC Tournament, will have a first-round match at home on Thursday against number-six Clark at 3:30 p.m. on the Clark Tennis Courts. Wheaton is 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the NEWMAC.
