Wheaton drops second straight to regionally-ranked foe, falls to Denison

HILTON HEAD, SC- The Wheaton College men's tennis team dropped its second straight match to a regionally-ranked foe in as many days Tuesday, as the Lyons suffered an 8-1 setback to Denison University of Ohio.

Wheaton slips to 2-2, while the Big Red, which is ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central region poll, stayed unbeaten at 4-0.

Denison swept doubles action, with Wheaton juniors Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) playing in the tightest match, as the tandem suffered an 8-4 setback at three.

Krantz recorded the lone victory with a straight-set singles win in the fifth slot, knocking off his opponent by a count of 7-5, 6-4.  Senior Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) forced a third set with a 6-2 victory during the middle set at three before dropping a 10-8 decision in a super tiebreaker.

The Lyons face the University of Scranton tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. to close out their four-match spring trip.
