NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's tennis junior Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Singles Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, April 4.
Krantz earned his third career NEWMAC weekly honor, and his second singles accolade, while becoming the third Lyon in as many weeks to be named league singles player of the week.
Krantz lost only three games last week while posting a 3-0 mark, helping the Lyons to the same record. In a 9-0 win over Bridgewater State College on Tuesday, he blanked his opponent in the fifth position before repeating the feat on Saturday during Wheaton's 6-3 victory at the United States Coast Guard Academy. In Thursday's 7-2 win over Salve Regina University, Krantz picked up a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.
At 9-1, Krantz is within two singles wins of matching his career high, with eight victories having come from the fifth position. In addition to riding a seven-match winning streak in singles, Krantz has gone 10-2 during doubles play, tying for the team lead in doubles triumphs.
Wheaton is 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the league, as its current six-match winning streak is the program's longest since 2007. The Lyons are back in action on Wednesday at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at 4:00 p.m. The Engineers, who have won every regular season and tournament title in the NEWMAC's 11-year history, are ranked 27th nationally.
