SCHENECTADY, NY- The Wheaton College men's tennis team won for the seventh time in eight matches on Friday, taking an 8-1 decision from Union College at the Union Tennis Courts. The Lyons moved to 9-3, while the Dutchmen fell to 1-4.
Wheaton captured a 3-0 advantage during doubles, with juniors Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) notching an 8-3 victory in the third position to highlight the trio of wins.
Senior Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) and sophomore Neall Oliver (Portland, ME/Deering) earned an 8-5 triumph at the top spot, while senior James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) and junior Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled) picked up a narrow 9-8 victory at two.
During singles play, Krantz took a 6-1, 6-1 decision in the fifth spot, Hudgins lost only three games at three while triumphant, and Oliver notched a 6-1, 6-3 win in the top position. Little's 6-1, 6-4 victory occurred at two, and Altman played to a close 7-5, 7-6 win at six. In the fourth spot, Poulin won the opening set before ultimately losing in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 5-10.
Wheaton continues a run of three matches in as many days tomorrow by hosting New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Clark University at 1:00 p.m.
