NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's tennis team won for the third time in as many days on Sunday, as the Lyons collected their ninth victory in 10 matches with a 7-2 triumph over visiting Colby-Sawyer College in non-league action at the Clark Tennis Courts.
Improving its all-time mark against the Chargers to 4-0 while playing them for the first time since 2005, Wheaton improved to 11-3. Colby-Sawyer fell to 5-9.
The hosts took two of three doubles matches in gaining a 2-1 edge, as juniors Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) improved to 10-2 as a tandem with an 8-1 victory in the third position.
Senior Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) and sophomore Neall Oliver (Portland, ME/Deering) came up just short to freshmen Gustav Norberg (Bromma, Sweden/Norra Real) and Adam Whitman (Newcastle, NH/Portsmouth) in the number-one doubles position, falling 9-8 in a tiebreaker.
Wheaton collected straight-set victories in the first through third singles slots and in the fifth and sixth positions. Hudgins and Altman allowed three games at three and six, respectively, while Little and Krantz surrendered five games in the second and fifth positions, respectively.
Oliver defeated Norberg by a 6-3, 6-4 count in the top spot, and senior Bryan Racz (Stratton, VT/Burr and Burton Academy) knocked off Poulin, 7-6, 6-3 at number four.
Wheaton continues its four-match homestand on Thursday with a non-conference contest against Salem State College at 3:30 p.m.
