Wheaton wins fourth straight in downing visiting Salem State, 8-1

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's tennis team extending its winning streak to four matches with an 8-1 non-conference triumph over visiting Salem State College on Thursday afternoon at the Clark Tennis Courts.

Playing in their third straight home match, the Lyons improved to 12-3, while the Vikings fell to 3-6.

Juniors Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) set the tone early for the Lyons, as the tandem blanked the opposition in the third doubles slot.

Senior James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) and junior Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled) cruised to an 8-1 victory at number two.

At top doubles, senior Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) and sophomore Neall Oliver (Portland, ME/Deering) won 9-8 over senior Adrien Malosse (Triel-sur-Seine, France/North Broward Prep) and junior Alexander Eisath (Renon, Italy/HOB-Kuntner).

The Lyons won the second through sixth singles matches, with Krantz shutting out his opponent at number five.  Altman yielded one game in the sixth position, Little and Poulin surrendered three games each in the second and fourth spots, respectively, while Hudgins won 6-2, 6-2 at number three.  In the top spot, Oliver and Malosse split 6-2 sets before Malosse posted an 11-9 victory during the super tiebreaker.

The Lyons wrap up the home portion of their schedule on Saturday against New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Babson College at 1:00 p.m.
