Trio of Lyons collect wins at ITA Regional Tournament
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - A trio of Wheaton College men's tennis players picked up wins in the consolation round of the three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament at Williams College's Hunt Tournament Courts.
After suffering an 8-1 setback to the top-seeded doubles team from Brandeis University on Friday, seniors Harry Altman (Riverdale, N.Y./The Dwight School) and Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, Mass./Home Schooled) recorded an 8-6 victory over a tandem from New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) school Springfield College.
Senior Brian Krantz (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran) bounced back from a Friday defeat to collect a 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 win over a Colby College foe on Saturday. Krantz then dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to a player from Bowdoin College. Krantz's 6-1, 6-4 loss on Friday came to an opponent from fellow league member Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Rounding out Wheaton's players was junior Neall Oliver (Portland, Maine/Deering), who was defeated by a 6-3, 6-2 count to an Amherst College player on Friday before falling short of a Bowdoin foe by a score of 6-3, 6-1 today.
The Lyons wrap up their fall slate on October 9-10 at the Stonehill College Invitational.
