HILTON HEAD, S.C.- The Wheaton College men's tennis team began its southern trip with a tough 9-0 loss to nationally-ranked Rhodes College on Sunday afternoon.
The Lyons fell to 1-1 on the young season, while Rhodes, which is tied for 30th in the country in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, improved to 9-1.
Senior Brian Krantz (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran) and junior Neall Oliver (Portland, Maine/Deering) dopped an 8-2 decision in the top doubles spot.
Senior Harry Altman (Riverdale, N.Y./The Dwight School) and freshman Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) also fell by an 8-2 count in the second slot, while senior Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, Mass./Home Schooled) and freshman Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) suffered an 8-3 setback at number three.
In singles play, Oliver lost 6-4, 6-3 in the second position, while Krantz and Poulin picked up two games each in the first and third spots, respectively.
Wheaton returns to the courts tomorrow for another non-conference match against Ithaca College.
