SALEM, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's tennis team posted its second victory of the season by knocking off non-conference opponent Salem State University by a 7-2 count on Tuesday afternoon at the Rockett Arena.
Snapping their four-match losing skid, the Lyons improved to 2-4. As for the host Vikings, today's match was their season opener.
Wheaton senior Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, Mass./Home Schooled) and freshman Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) claimed an 8-4 doubles triumph at the second spot, while senior Trent Faltin (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) and sophomore Dennis Scarpa (Cheshire, Conn./Xavier) posted a hard-fought 8-6 victory at number three.
In singles play, junior Neall Oliver (Portland, Maine/Deering) cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the top slot, while Sharon surrendered just one game at number three. Altman and freshman Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) dropped just three games at the fourth and sixth positions, respectively, and Scarpa rounded out the wins with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at five.
The Lyons return to action next Tuesday as they take on host Bridgewater State University at 3:30 p.m.
