Poulin, Sharon repeat as league doubles team, Poulin earns singles praise
NORTON, Mass. - Wheaton College men's tennis senior Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, Mass./Home Schooled) and freshman Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) repeated as New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Doubles Team of the Week for the second straight time for the week ending on Sunday, April 3.
Poulin was also tabbed NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week for the first time in his career. His doubles recognition marked the fourth during his time at Wheaton.
Poulin and Sharon combined for a pair of victories during their team's 2-0 week, as the second-doubles tandem notched a convincing 8-1 win in the Lyons' 5-4 triumph over visiting Babson College during each team's conference opener on Saturday. In Wheaton's 9-0 sweep at Bridgewater State University on Tuesday, the duo emerged victorious by an 8-2 count.
In singles action, Poulin played a major role in his team's win over Babson, as he recorded the deciding victory from the third position. Poulin downed his opponent by a score of 7-5 in the opening set before posting a 12-10 tiebreak result to win 7-6 in completing the straight-set victory. At Bridgewater State, he collected a 6-2, 6-0 triumph.
The Lyons head to the western side of the state on Wednesday afternoon for a NEWMAC match at Springfield College at 4:00 p.m.
