Wheaton runs winning streak to seven, blanks Colby-Sawyer, 9-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Wheaton College men's tennis team had little trouble putting away host Colby-Sawyer College on Sunday afternoon at the Kelsey Courts, blanking the Chargers by a 9-0 count while extending their winning streak to seven matches. 

The Lyons improved to 8-4 on the year, while the hosts dropped to 2-7.

Wheaton posted a pair of 8-1 doubles victories, with senior Brian Krantz (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran) and junior Neall Oliver (Portland, Maine/Deering) notching the win in the top spot and seniors Trent Faltin (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) and Josh Fisher (Ridgefield, Conn./Wooster School) emerging victorious in the third position. 

Senior Harry Altman (Riverdale, N.Y./The Dwight School) and freshman Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) doubled up the opposition by an 8-4 margin at two.

In singles action, Oliver and doubles partner Krantz tallied 6-2, 6-0 wins from the first and second positions, respectfully, while sophomore Dennis Scarpa (Cheshire, Conn./Xavier) swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth slot.  Senior Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, Mass./Home Schooled), freshman Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) and Terrace each surrendered just one game apiece en route to victory at numbers three, four, and six, respectively.

The Lyons next host Salve Regina University in a non-conference match on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
