NORTON, Mass. - For the third consecutive week, Wheaton College men's tennis players swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's (NEWMAC) weekly singles and doubles awards, this time doing so for the week ending on Sunday, April 10.
Freshman Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) was selected NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week for the first time in his career after earning doubles accolades in each of the last two weeks. Senior Harry Altman (Riverdale, N.Y./The Dwight School) and freshman Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) were named NEWMAC Doubles team of the week, marking Altman's third such honor and Terrace's first.
Sharon went a perfect 4-0 from his fourth position during Wheaton's 4-0 week. He picked up straight-set victories over Clark University, Colby-Sawyer College and Springfield College while earning a key three-set win over regionally-ranked State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta. In a 5-4 victory against the Red Dragons, Sharon dropped his first set by a 6-2 count before winning his next two sets by scores of 7-6 and 6-3.
Altman and Terrace sided to go 4-0, playing at second doubles once and in the third position three times. The tandem won 8-4 against Colby-Sawyer from the second slot while posting an 8-2 victory over Clark, an 8-6 triumph against Oneonta State and an 8-3 win over Springfield at third doubles.
Wheaton carries its seven-match winning streak into Wednesday's non-conference home contest against Salve Regina University at 4:00 p.m.
