Men’s Tennis Competes At Connecticut College/Coast Guard Tourney
Lyons go 6-5 in singles play, 3-5 in doubles action
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Wheaton College men's tennis team participated in the Connecticut College/Coast Guard Tournament on Saturday afternoon playing in 20 matches total including singles and doubles play.
The Lyons posted a 6-5 record in singles action and a 3-5 mark in doubles play competing against several teams including Connecticut College, Coast Guard, Holy Cross, Springfield and Roger Williams.
At No.2 doubles, Wheaton sophomores Shreve Archer (Pebble Beach, Calif./Stevenson School) and Will White (Nantucket, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) fell to Springfield College freshman Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass./Lee) and senior Joe Gianelli (Watertown, Conn./Holy Cross) by an 8-5 score.
Junior Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) and sophomore David Gassen (Dusseldorf, Germany/Saddlebrook Prep) claimed an 8-4 win over Coast Guard sophomore Robert Renfrow (Leonardtown, Md.) and junior Jon Lightner (Stuttgart, Germany).
In singles play, Lyons' senior co-captain Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) turned in a 6-4, 6-2 win at No.2 singles against Roger Williams, while White also turned in a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over a member of the Hawks men's tennis team at No.4.
Wheaton returns to action on Friday, September 27 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament in Middlebury, Vt.
