Men’s Tennis Closes Out Its Fall Season With 7-2 Victory Over Union
Lyons return to action on March 18, at home, against Salem St.
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's tennis team concluded its fall season with an 7-2 victory over Union (N.Y.) in non-conference action at the Clark Tennis Courts.
The Lyons had four double-winners on the evening including sophomore Jonah Feit (Los Angeles, Calif./Milken Community), senior co-captain Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School), sophomore Shreve Archer (Pebble Beach, Calif./Stevenson School) and senior Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn./Darien).
In doubles play, Feit and Sharon ousted Union sophomore T.J. Moor (Natick, Mass./Rivers School) and junior Grant Zaccareo (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) by an 8-4 score at No.1. Feit handed Moor the same fate at No.1 singles defeating the sophomore, 6-2, 6-1, while Sharon bested Zaccareo, 6-2, 6-3.
Jackson and Archer posted an 8-3 decision at No.3 doubles against freshman David Brown and sophomore Michael Donadio (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland). At No.3 singles, Archer notched a thrilling 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 triumph over Union sophomore Anthony Laurencio (Cambridge, Mass./Noble and Greenough School). Jackson breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win versus sophomore Spencer Fontein (Aurora, Ontario/The County Day School) at No.4.
Wheaton sophomore David Gassen (Dusseldorf, Germany/Saddlebrook Prep) rounded out the list of winners for the Lyons with a 6-1, 6-3 decision against Brown at No.6 singles.
The Blue and White (1-0) return to action on Tuesday, March 18 versus Salem State University in non-conference action at a time to be determine later at home. Union (1-2) takes on Clark University tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
