Jackson claims first honor, Terrace picks up third-career award
NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College men's tennis seniors Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn./Darien) and Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) have been named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference list.
Terrace becomes just the fifth student-athlete in the history of the program to earn NEWMAC Academic All-Conference accolades for the third time in his career. Honorees must have met the following criteria to receive NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors: earned a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2013 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at his institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
Terrace joins Nick Potter '06, Will Stoddard '07, Chapman Beekman '10 and Trent Faltin '11 on the illustrious list. A political science major with a minor in history, Terrace boasts a 3.65 GPA at the College, has been a member of the Dean's List, is a Wheaton Scholar-Athlete and has earned two Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete selections.
Jackson collects his first career honor as member of the men's tennis team and second overall after receiving similar honors as a member of the swimming and diving team earlier this winter. A history major with a minor in Hispanic studies, Jackson sports a 3.53 GPA to go along with ITA Scholar-Athlete honors and multiple Dean's List and Wheaton Scholar-Athlete accolades. In the pool, Jackson ranks inside the top-10 all-time in four different events and along with the rest of his teammates earned placement on the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Team Scholar All-America list.
Wheaton concluded its season earlier this week with a 5-3 loss to Coast Guard Academy in the NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinals. The Lyons posted a 9-9 record overall and 3-3 mark in conference play.
