BOSTON, MA- Sophomore Cailean Robinson (Newton, MA/Phillips Exeter Academy) notched a trio of NCAA Championship qualifying marks to lead the Wheaton College men's indoor track & field team during Saturday's non-scoring Valentine Invitational at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
Robinson finished fourth among 116 competitors during the preliminaries of the 55-meter dash with a provisional mark of 6.46 before taking fourth in the finals at 6.47, good for another provisional standard.
Robinson also ran a leg on the top Division III 4x400M relay team that cruised to a provisional qualifying time of 3:15.61, which was just 0.61 ticks off the automatic mark. Robinson, senior Merzudin Ibric (Revere, MA/Phillips Academy), junior Mark Williamson (Vienna, VA/James Madison) and freshman Ben Miklovich (New Gloucester, ME/Gray-New Gloucester) combined for a sixth-place standing among 45 foursomes.
Senior Howard Powell (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) rounded out the national meet provisional qualifiers, as his finals time of 7.74 in the 55M hurdles just made the cut. He was the second Division III runner to cross the finish line while placing 10th overall.
In the 200M race, Ibric took 14th among nearly 200 competitors, with his time of 21.93 coming within 0.07 ticks of a four-year-old school record.
Wheaton returns to action next Sunday for the USA Track & Field (USATF) New England Championship at Harvard University.
