Robinson posts NCAA mark, Powell event win at Division III regional meet

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College indoor track & field sophomores Didine Jusme (Providence, RI/Classical) and Cailean Robinson (Newton, MA/Phillips Exeter Academy) each posted NCAA national meet provisional qualifying times at their respective NCAA New England Championship meets on Saturday.
Three scoring men led the Lyons to a 12th-place finish with 23 points at Bates College, as just five athletes competed. On the women's side, four athletes traveled to the University of Southern Maine, with Jusme serving as the lone scorer.
Jusme twice eclipsed an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 55-meter hurdles, including notching the top semifinals time of 8.33 among 16 competitors. In the finals, Jusme placed second to a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) athlete with a time of 8.45.
Robinson was the runner up in the 55-meter dash with a provisional standard of 6.40, which was a mere 0.01 ticks off his freshman school record. Junior Raiyan Banaji (Mumbai, India/American School of Bombay) placed fourth in the event in 6.57.
Senior Howard Powell (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) earned his team 10 points after capturing the 55-meter hurdles title. His time of 7.79 was 0.05 seconds shy of an NCAA provisional qualifier, as he was 0.06 ticks ahead of the second-place finisher.
Additional Wheaton athletes are slated to compete at tomorrow's USA Track & Field (USATF) New England Championship at Harvard University.
