Cimino and Fear sweep weekly NEWMAC awards

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's outdoor track & field senior Mark Cimino (Danbury, CT/Danbury) and freshman Sam Fear (Bath, ME/North Yarmouth Academy) swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards for the week ending on Sunday, March 21.

Named track athlete of the week for the first time, Cimino ran relay legs for the NCAA provisional qualifying 4x100-meter relay team and school-record 4x200-meter squad at the Division I-heavy Coastal Carolina University Shamrock Invitational.  The 4x100M relay quartet finished fifth among 26 teams in 41.18, which was 0.18 ticks shy of an automatic qualifying standard.  The 4x200M relay foursome finished 10th in the 26-team field in 1:28.24.

Selected field athlete of the week, Fear broke a five-year-old school mark in the javelin at the Shamrock Invitational, surpassing the old standard by more than two feet.  His heave went 179' 2", which was good for 13th overall.

The Lyons next compete at Fitchburg State College's Sheehan Memorial on Saturday, April 3, at 11:00 a.m.
