WORCESTER, MA- Wheaton College freshman Cecil Jeffrey (Framingham, MA/Rivers School) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Track & Field Rookie of the Year during Tuesday's postseason meeting at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Jeffrey is the sixth Lyon to earn the honor in 12 years.
Also an all-league soccer player last fall, Jeffrey earned a pair of all-conference finishes during Saturday's NEWMAC Championship. He took second in the 400-meter dash with an NCAA Championship provisional qualifying time of 48.47 while running a leg for the winning 4x400M relay, which also met an NCAA standard by finishing in 3:15.87.
Jeffrey currently owns the 11th-fastest 400M time in Division III this spring while having run for the seventh-quickest 4x400M relay quartet. The Lyons took fourth during the NEWMAC Championship, their highest showing since 2006, and return to competition on Friday and Saturday for the NCAA New England Championship at Tufts University.
