CAMBRIDGE, MA- Sophomore Cailean Robinson (Newton, MA/Phillips Exeter Academy) surpassed a pair of school records while record two of the Wheaton College men's and women's track & field teams' five NCAA Championship provisional times on Friday during the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Last Chance Qualifier in Steinbrenner Stadium.
Robinson won the 100-meter dash in an NCAA time of 10.69, clipping his former program mark by 0.01 seconds. During the 200M, he and senior Merzudin Ibric (Revere, MA/Phillips Academy) both clocked in at 21.54, each breaking the school record while tying for first in the event. Their performances also provisionally qualified them for the national meet. Freshman Ben Miklovich (New Gloucester, ME/Gray-New Gloucester) took fourth.
Freshman Cecil Jeffrey (Framingham, MA/Rivers School) was the runner up in the 400-meter dash with an NCAA time of 48.45, while sophomore Sheldon Allen (Dorchester, MA/Charlestown) won the 110M hurdles in 14.90, 0.02 ticks short of provisional status.
Sophomore Didine Jusme (Providence, RI/Classical) notched an NCAA provisional showing during the women's 100-meter hurdles, placing second in a time of 14.75, and missed another NCAA time by 0.02 seconds by finishing the 200M in 25.27. She took third in the event.
In the field, freshman Amanda Claflin (Pembroke, MA/Pembroke) was second in the long jump at 17' 6", which was 8 1/2" short of an NCAA distance. Sophomore Ashley Dell'Aira (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) was fifth in the triple jump.
Select athletes will find out early next week whether they are competing at the three-day NCAA Championship, which begins on Thursday at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
