Underclassmen lead Lyons at Northeastern meet
BOSTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's track & field team competed in the second annual Joe Donahue Games, hosted by Northeastern University, at the Reggie Lewis Center on Friday evening. The Lyons, who finished 13th overall, participated with several schools in the meet including Northeastern, Stonehill, Vermont, UMass Amherst, Maine, Hartford, Cobleskill, New Hampshire, Holy Cross, Boston College, Brown University and Williams.
Sophomore Ben Sharma (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) placed 17th overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.97-seconds.
Freshman Alexei Spinu (New Cannon, Mass./New Cannon) finished 17th overall in the one mile run with a time of 4:29.50 leading a pack five Wheaton distance runners. Senior Michael Richard (Chicopee, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) ranked 18th overall in 4:30.08 and sophomore Harry Bachrach (Chestnut Hill, Mass./Beaver Country Day) placed 20th overall in 4:34.03.
Sophomore John Green (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) posted a time of 4:36.30 for 23rd place overall while junior Nick Emard (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) rounded out the group in 25th place with a time of 4:52.64.
Junior Logan Hinderliter (Allegheny, Pa./Allegheny) placed 20th overall in the shot put with a throw of 35-feet and 6.50-inches.
In the 4x400-meter relay, Wheaton finished ninth overall as senior Howard Manly (Ayer, Mass./Lawrence Academy), freshman Sam Miklovich (Gray New Gloucester, Maine/Gray New Gloucester), sophomore Nathan Sheridan (Albuquerque, N.M./Desert Academy) and Spinu teamed up for a total time of 3:32.75.
Miklovich also placed 13th overall in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:10.07.
The Lyons return to action on Friday, February 1 and Saturday, February 2 at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational at the New York City Armory.
