Sharma sets personal best in 200m
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seniors Harry Bachrach (Watertown, Mass./Beaver Country Day) and Ben Sharma (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) both set personal bests in their respective events to highlight the Wheaton College men's track and field team at the Ramapo Tune-Up on Friday at the NYC Armory.
Bachrach broke the 4:30 barrier in the one mile run for the first time in his career with a time of 4:28.38 to finish seventh overall out of 26 competitors in the event. Classmate Brendon Pickering (Merrimac, Mass./Waring) was 16th overall with a time of 4:40.82.
In the 200-meter dash, Sharma set a personal best time of 23.44-seconds to rank 29th overall. Sharma's previous personal best of 23.60-seconds was also set on the NYC Armory track on February 7, 2015. Sharma also ranked 19th overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.013-seconds.
Sophomore Javon Mullings (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys and Girls) finished 34th in the 200-meter dash (23.87) and 39th in the 60-meter dash (7.53).
First-year Nicholas Balow (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) clocked a time of 1:09.57 to place 12th overall in the 500-meter run, while junior Sam Miklovich (Gray New Gloucester, Maine/Gray New Gloucester) was 19th in 1:11.85.
Junior Alexei Spinu (New Canaan, Mass./New Canaan), who owns the fastest times this season on the team in the 500m (1:06.10), 600m (1:22.77) and the 800m (1:56.99), finished sixth overall out of 34 competitors in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.25.
The Lyons return to action next Friday and Saturday morning at the All-New England Championships at Boston University.
