KEENE, NH- After a two-week layoff, the Wheaton College men's and women's cross country teams returned to action on Saturday at the 15th annual Keene State College Invitational, held at the Owl Athletic Complex. The Lyon women were eighth among 12 scoring teams with 246 points, while the men took 10th out of 11 with 304 points. The hosts won the men's race, while Amherst College captured the women's crown.
Among the four teams that Wheaton's women bested was Division II Assumption College, which tied for ninth with Endicott College, placing 35 points behind the Lyons. Senior co-captain Katie Pratt (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) cracked the top 50 as the Blue and White's top finisher, coming in 48th with a time of 20:49.
The next Lyon to cross the finish line was freshman Lindsay Petrenchik (Chagrin Falls, OH/Chagrin Falls) in 64th, while sophomore Rachel Scavera (North Bend, OR/North Bend) was just behind in 65th. Sophomores Savannah Geasey (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) and Monica Black (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) and freshman Elizabeth Urena (Maywood, CA/Bell) took 79th, 81st and 82nd, respectively.
On the men's side, junior co-captain Nick Kacher (Waltham, MA/Waltham) was the first Lyon to finish before being followed by classmate Colin Fahey (Waltham, MA/Weston), an order Wheaton has now seen three times in as many races this fall. Kacher placed 58th in a time of 27:50, while Fahey was 79th.
Wheaton is back in action next Saturday for the All New England Championship in Boston's Franklin Park.
