WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's cross country team finished 22nd at the 16th annual James Earley Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University, Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park. The Lyons finished with a total of 525 points.
Junior Michael Richard (Chicopee, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) paced the Lyons through the 8k course, finishing 28th with a time of 23:32.96. Classmate Karl Mader (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) was second on the Lyons in 76th place with a time of 28:41.82.
Freshman John Green (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) was Wheaton's third-highest finisher, posting a time of 29:47.50 to earn 123rd place. Senior Sean Astle (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) recorded a time of 30:34.35 to finish 168th.
Rounding out the pack for the Lyons were sophomores Christopher Panzini (Revere, Mass./Revere) and James Court (Paris, France/American School of Paris) in 291st and 292nd place, respectively. Panzini posted a time of 37:41.15 while Court finished the course in 37:43.60.
Among the collegiate teams competing in the event, Coast Guard took home first place with a score of 67, followed by Westfield State in second place (140) and Bridgewater State in third place (142).
The Lyons return to action on October 14when they compete at the Saints Invitational at Franklin Park in Boston at 4:45 p.m.
